The price you pay per kWh of electricity in Spain depends heavily on whether you are on the regulated market (PVPC) or a free market contract.

Regulated vs Free Market

In Spain, consumers can choose between two main types of electricity tariffs:

• PVPC (Regulated Market): The price per kWh changes every hour based on supply and demand. It is historically cheaper overall, but highly volatile.
• Free Market (Fixed): Your supplier locks in a price per kWh for 12 months. This protects you from price spikes, but you might pay a premium for that security.

What is a "Good" Price?

If you are paying more than 0.15 € / kWh on your bill right now, you are likely overpaying. Many major providers default out-of-contract users onto expensive standard variable tariffs often exceeding 0.20 € / kWh.
